Alaska Federation of Natives Convention

Rain or Shine Fitness Grand Opening
Cordova Chamber of Commerce invites you to the Grand Opening of Rain or Shine Fitness & Training, located within Seaside Salon & Wellness at 412 First St, from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 19. Attendees can enjoy snacks and door prizes, and learn about owner Desiree Jensen’s fitness, training, meal plans, core and floor training, pre/post-natal fitness and other topics.

Saturday Market
The next Cordova Saturday Market will be from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Masonic Lodge, complete with spooky photo booth.

Haunted Ship
The US Coast Guard Haunted Ship will be Friday, Oct. 25 at the USCG Cutter Fir station. Dress for the weather and bring your ID. Younger kids and those who like less it less spooky should come between 5:30-7 p.m. Older kids and adults may attend from 7-8:30 p.m.

Girls on the Run Costume 5K
The Girls on the Run Costume 5K will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Race registration starts at 9 a.m. and is $15. Ages 15 and under are free. Free spooky games and activities will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mt. Eccles Elementary School gym. For more information, contact the Cordova Family Resource Center at 907-424-5674.

Youth Campfire Circle
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Native Village of Eyak’s Tribal Youth Council invites Cordova to a campfire talking circle to discuss bullying prevention from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at Nirvana Park.

Trick or Treat for Booooks
Kids aged pre-K through teen are invited to stop by the Cordova Center education room from 4-6 p.m. on Oct. 31 to trick-or-treat for a book. Event sponsored by the Friends of the Cordova Public Library.

Harvest Festival
The Little Chapel will host a Harvest Festival including activities, hot dogs and candy from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.

Rup Loops
Cordova Arts and Pageants presents Rup Loops, the Human Radio. Watch the live performance at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at the North Star Theater. Tickets available at the door. Event is family friendly.

Sobriety Celebration
Save the date! This year’s Sobriety Celebration, hosted by Native Village of Eyak, will be Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16, at the Cordova Center.

Open gym for Cordova’s youth

Skeet and trap

Bidarki adult volleyball

Tot Time
The Bidarki Rec Center opens the upstairs gym for little ones 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Toys, mats and other items are provided so tots and their caregivers can enjoy some free, inside playtime, rain or shine. There is no fee to attend.

Morning Music
Elementary school children are welcome to come and sing and play guitar, fiddle, ukulele, bass, mandolin, and banjo from 8:05 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. on Thursdays and Fridays at the elementary school music room. Older kids, parents and community members are welcome and needed as helpers. Pre-schoolers can come with their parents or caregivers.

Life Hacks for Kids
Life Hacks for Kids is a free weekly after-school program at Cordova Public Library for students grades four through six. Students will learn useful life skills such as using common household tools, restaurant etiquette and ordering, grocery shopping, laundry, camping, first aid and fire safety, and basic sewing. Gospel sing-along
Join members of St. George’s Episcopal Church on Tuesdays from 4-5 p.m. at the Cordova Community Medical Center for a gospel sing-along to bring smiles to the long-term residents and hospital staff. For more information contact Belle at 907-424-5143.

Knit & Lit Book Club
Bring your knitting and join the Knit & Lit Book Club at 7 p.m. at the fireplacein the Cordova Public Library, the last Tuesday of every month.

Ilanka community wellness and recovery support circle
A wellness and recovery support circle will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Ilanka Wellness Center located at the old DMV office across from St. George’s Episcopal Church. The group is for those wanting to develop skills to live a substances-free life in a safe environment. For more information, call John at 907-424-3622.

Tuesday Night Talks

A children’s story time activity will be held at the Cordova Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Caregivers must attend.

Celebrate Recovery
A Christian program to help overcome issues with substance use, abuse, divorce, fear, anxiety, food, gambling, and other hurts, habits and hang-ups is every Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene’s Christian Education Building on Adams Avenue. Homeport Coffee Shop is open from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday nights. Enter at the side door, below the Cordova Community Baptist Church, and enjoy coffee, desserts, free Wi-Fi and board games.

Cordova Disc Golf Club league play
