Blink Fitness scheduled its grand opening at 2-5 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Highland Square Shopping Center at 1102 Dunn Ave.

Blink Fitness, which said it plans nine more gyms in Jacksonville, opens the 16,000-square-foot North Jacksonville location with memberships starting at $15 a month.

New York-based Blink Fitness said the Jacksonville gym features equipment for every fitness level, including cardio machines, strength equipment, dumbbells and designated areas for stretching, high-intensity interval training, body weight training and more. 

Highland Square is at Dunn Avenue and Briarcliff Road.

Club hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 5 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday; and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Carlos Gavidia, his wife, Laura, and children Liana and Casen own the Jacksonville Blink Fitness locations.

The city approved a permit Nov. 25 for Garden City, New York-based builder Corcon to build-out and renovate 15,912 square feet of gym space For Blink Fitness.

The permit shows a job cost of $1.13 million for the area’s first Blink Fitness. The site is a former Bailey’s Health & Fitness.

Franchising.com reported April 29 that Blink Fitness, founded in 2011 and with more than 90 locations nationwide at the time, reached agreement with entrepreneurs Carlos and Laura Gavidia to open nine gyms. That has increased to 10.

The gym launched a Blink Fitness mobile app for members providing workout videos and guided meditations. The app also offers nutrition advice and recipes.
