“The Project” tells the story of a young boy who is struggling with weight and everything that goes along with it, including rejection from other students and low self-esteem. He suggests to his sixth-grade health class that they make healthy weight loss and improved energy the subject of their year long class project. The amazing results of the project give this character and all his classmates a delightfully happy and healthy ending!
Although it is written as fiction, "The Project" has chapters about the dangers of smoking and alcohol poisoning; also chapters on nutrition, shopping for healthy foods at the supermarket, preparing healthy snacks, sleep needs for children, an all-volunteer after school exercise program, and a school fund-raiser that breaks all previous records!
This book is a must-read not only for children, but for educators, medical professionals who work with children, and parents who want to make a difference in the health of children in the community.

"The Project is not your ordinary children’s fiction. It’s
entertaining and fun, yet at the same time it is filled with exciting ideas on
how to help children lose weight and increase self-esteem.
Using class activities as the backdrop,
Author Grey’s original living healthy ideas are sprinkled throughout the book,
which can be used in an actual classroom. With the help of a registered
dietician for a local hospital who verified the fun-filled nutritional
information, accuracy is not an issue, which makes this book much more than a
fictional product.
Teachers and schools can learn a lot from
this book. In fact, why not use this book as guidance for developing your own
health programs?
Author Bev Grey is definitely a very
conscientious grandma, but most of all, she is a unique author with a strong
message and a strong book to deliver to today’s obese children, their parents,
and their teachers.
Perhaps Hollywood is indeed waiting at the corner, not only imagined by the
author."
"The Project is a practical and entertaining way for children to learn about how
to maintain a healthy weight. Bev Grey's creative writing style shows that
adopting a healthy lifestyle involving nutritious food and regular exercise can
be both fun and rewarding. I intend to introduce her book to all of my pediatric
patients."

"The Project is a heart-warming and inspiring tale of
what one middle school student can do to make a huge
difference. The book is the “recipe” that kids (and
adults!) need to live healthier lifestyles, and author
“Grandma” Bev Grey has incorporated all the
“ingredients” in an upbeat, positive and entertaining
story everyone should read."
