Whether you’re keen to follow the trends with baby names, or if you’re desperate to know what everyone else is calling their newborns so your child won’t be one of five in a class with the same name, it’s interesting to take a look at what’s set to be the most popular baby names for boys and girls will be in the UK next year, in 2020.

Luckily, baby naming site Nameberry has already done the predictions for us, working out which names in their database have seen the biggest increases in interest recently, in comparison with last year.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest trend that’s set to continue in 2020 for baby names is old fashioned names that went virtually unused as we were growing up. Probably in a bid to make their child more unique, new parents are becoming increasingly drawn towards vintage names dug out from the archives.

In among those are some entirely new names, some that have been spruced up to give a modern twist, and others that have been taken from other cultures. Check out the names set to be most popular for baby boys and baby girls born in 2020:

If you’re curious about which names have been topping the baby name list for boys and girls so far in 2019, parenting site Bounty shared a list earlier this year. As you might well have guessed, the usual favourites were still lurking at the top (Olivia and Oliver, I’m looking at you), but there have also been some new trends emerging. Like the new obsession with naming babies after characters from Peaky Blinders, with the likes of Tommy, Ada, Arthur and Esme all seeing a surge in popularity.

Some of the newly favoured boys’ names for 2019 included Hunter, Reuben, Roman, Grayson and Dominic, all of which have climbed the ranks over the past year. For girls, the names growing fastest in popularity include Luna, Myla, Rosie, Summer and Neveah. As predicted, there is some overlap between 2020’s predicted most popular names, and 2019’s.
