A charity, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, built bunk beds in Medford for children in need along with 140 of its chapters across the United States on Saturday, their build day.
Volunteers gave their time and hard work to constructing handmade beds which are meant to last year after year for children who do not have access to one.
Edenvale Winery allowed the organization to use their open space as many volunteers got to work in the fresh air.
Kristin Fettig manages social media and marketing for the Jackson County chapter. She said that a good nights sleep is very important and can solve behavioral issues in children.
Fettig said this is part of the many aspects which promotes a child’s healthy growth for a better future.
It wouldn’t have been done without the charity’s sponsors and donors too.
“We’ve actually delivered quite a few beds to families. All their money just trying to get their kids in a nice place and now it’s empty and they have no furniture, so that’s happened quite a bit. We work with DHS, … local mental health providers and different people in the social work field to get the word out and specifically for kids three to seventeen,” Fettig said.
Volunteers were able to learn how to use power tools and enjoyed working alongside an environment they say was supportive and welcoming.
Volunteers Renee Arnpriester & Julie Shackelford said doing something positive for children in need was something they felt good about.
“Everybody just comes together they let you know you’re welcomed and you’re here to help everybody so its just really cool to see everybody come together and meet a lot of new people. And just to team up and work for the children just do something good for the community,” Arnprister and Shackelford said.
Previously the Charity had a build day back in March where more beds were made.
A motto of this charity is: “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.”
With 140 chapters across America, Sleep in Heavenly Peace was able to create 3000 bunks, totaling to 6000 individual beds. They say this broke a Guinness world record.
