Hy-Vee on Sheridan Road has been hosting Camp Junior Chef 2019 throughout the summer, to teach kids a skill that can benefit them on the long run.

This camp allows children to take in depth cooking classes for three consecutive days. Each day they learn to make four different recipes with the help of the store’s dietitian, Lauren Williams.

The third day, they take part in a cooking competition. Williams said it’s important to show kids healthy eating habits.

“If they have the skill to learn to cook more at home, they can make healthier things so overall I’m hoping they eat healthier as they get older when they learn how to cook when they’re younger,” said Lauren Williams, Registered Dietitian at Hy-Vee.

Although the last session of the summer has already started, families can expect to have this camp back up again next summer. Hy-Vee also hosts brief cooking classes throughout the year.
