The Healthy Heroes Camp, sponsored and coordinated by the Pineville Rotary Club along with the Pineville Youth Center, concluded the four-day camp Thursday, July 11, 2019.

“We have about 70 children that registered for the camp,” said Christy Frederic, a charter member of the club. Campers were treated to lunch and a program.

On Thursday, John Belvin Jr., executive chef of the Diamond Grill, taught the campers how to make Turkey Tacos.

“Today, I chose to do some ground-turkey tacos with some corn tortillas, homemade guacamole, homemade salsa — just trying to show the kids that it’s not boring to eat healthy,” said Belvin.

The recipe is simple and the children can make at home.

Belvin also shared his experiences in the culinary field and his life with the campers.

Dorian Hinkston, 6 was Belvin’s helper. He helped sprinkle the seasoning on the ground turkey and said he liked the taste of the seasoning.

Dorian said he wanted to be a chef when he grew up.

“Because I want people to like my food that I make,” he explained.
