Beauty school pushes back against occupational licensing bill

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Cosmetologists across Tennessee are required to obtain a license for their profession before taking on clients.

According to state law, cosmetologists are required to undergo a minimum of 1,500 hours of training and education to obtain a license.

UT President Boyd calls for university’s ‘greatest decade’ during State of the University address

Boyd spoke in front of faculty and lawmakers on Friday at the State of the University address, outlining his vision for the land-grant institution.

Mayor Kincannon, city leaders examine budget priorities

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Mayor Indya Kincannon along with other leaders met Friday for the city’s midyear budget retreat to examine the budget and plan a proposal for the next fiscal year. The city’s six-month financial report was also released.

Kincannon shared her goals and kicked off the city’s multimonth public process in building the budget.
