A woman and two children, a boy and a girl, were found dead at their Des Moines residence late Tuesday, police said.

Police responded to a call at 11 p.m. that three people had been killed at a residence in the 1000 block of Day Street — in the Laurel Village complex, just north of Interstate Highway 235 and between Des Moines Area Community College on the east and Cheatom Park on the west.

Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek did not name the victims or specify their relationship. The victims were shot at their home, according to a Wednesday morning news release from Parizek.

An investigation continues; Parizek said that police think they have identified who is responsible and that the public is not threatened. No arrests have been announced.

The killings were the seventh, eighth and ninth homicides of 2019, according to a police news release.

Eight police vehicles lined up on both sides of Day Street late Tuesday, including a crime scene truck. Two firetrucks were parked outside the residence with one other police vehicle.

Outside of police activity, the area was quiet. Two civilians inside the yellow tape were the only non-police-affiliated individuals spotted outside.

A county attorney was at the scene to help police obtain a search warrant and move forward in the investigation, Parizek said.

Authorities said they would release more information Wednesday.
