Remember how fun it was to pretend shop at your toy supermarket as a kid?
The Pensacola Children’s Museum recently opened a souped-up, highly realistic version of that experience for the youth of Pensacola by adding a child-scaled Publix Super Market exhibit to the second floor of the museum.
The educational exhibit’s authentic shopping experience should spark the imaginations of kids across the city, allowing them to stroll through aisles with their shopping carts and stock up on pretend groceries.
Children should attain real life skills from the simulation and have a blast doing it. Takeaways include the importance of nutrition, food origins and food preparation for the kids picking out fruits and vegetables, bagging groceries and collecting ingredients.

“Over the years, PCM has become a flourishing family destination for Pensacola residents and visitors,” said Robert Overton, executive director of the UWF Historic Trust Museums. “We hope this fun and educational exhibit will draw even more visitors to our museums and teach valuable lessons about healthy eating to many children in our community.”
The new Publix exhibit replaced the children’s maritime exhibit and will be open for the next five years. The exhibit is sponsored by Publix Super Markets Charities.
Located in the UWF Historic Trust at 115 E. Zaragoza St., the PCM is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday.
