OAK FOREST, IL — The Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) organization in Oak Forest will be holding an event to build beds for kids who do not have one. This event will take place on Sept. 26 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 15050 Central Ave., Oak Forest, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There is no experience required to help build the beds and no registration is required. Materials will be provided.

During the event, attendees should expect to use raw lumber and some basic tools to build handmade bunk beds for the children in Oak Forest who are sleeping on the floor.

“These events are made possible by generous donations from local sponsors and through our simple and easy-to-follow process, anyone can participate even if you have no previous woodworking experience,” the organization wrote in the announcement.

The family-friendly event is for volunteers age 12 and up. Experienced volunteers will teach participants the different stages of the construction process, followed by assigning participants to a station.

“Experiencing the buzz, energy, and excitement of dozens of volunteers throughout all the stations working side-by-side is super fun,” SHP wrote in the announcement.

A Build Day can last on average 1 – 5 hours, depending on the resources available. Participants can also join the delivery team during the following weeks and see the smiles on the children who receive their very own bed for the first time, the announcement said.

If any family, team or organization is interested in being a part of the delivery day, reach out to anyone with anyone in an SHP shirt on at the event.
